News - Brig Bari called back, not Gen Masud: FM Dipu Moni

Sangsad Bhaban, Oct 12 (UNB) - Foreign Minister Dipu Moni Monday informed parliament that Brig Bari, who played an active role in the 1/11 political changeover and was laterposted overseas as Military Attaché to Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, has been called back to the country.

But, she said, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia Lt Gen Masud Uddin Chowdhury has not been called back by the Foreign Ministry.

General Masud was one of the main military leaders who had aided the 1/11 changeover and backed up the two-year interim regime in pursuing a massive reform recipe amid state of emergency until the December 29, 2008 general election was held.

Replying to M. Mujibul Huq (JP-Kishoreganj), the Foreign Minister said, “Actions will be taken against the officials who did not return to the country despite the Ministry’s instructions.”

She told Begum Faridunnahar Lailee (woman seat-18) that the ambassadorial posts in Jakarta, Bhutan, Bangkok and Oman remained vacant and steps were underway to replenish the vacancies.

In reply to Aslamul Huq (AL Dhaka-14) Dipu Moni said out of 47 ambassadorial posts, 42 full-fledged Ambassadors/High Commissioners are posted. Of them, 28 are from the Foreign Service cadre, 10 on contractual appointment and four on deputation.
