Panchagarh, Oct 12 (UNB)- Trial by court martial of a BSF jawan for
trespass and shooting to death three Bangladeshi nationals last year
began at Phulbari BSF camp across the border when Bangladeshi
witnesses deposed in the court today.

In a heavily drunken condition BSF jawan RP Singh illegally crossed
the Majheepara border on November 16 last year and opened
indiscriminate fire killing Majeda Begum (25), her one year old son
Mamun and Golam Mustafa (55) at Moinakuri village. Shahidul Islam,
husband of Majeda was wounded by bullet.

The villagers caught Singh and took to the hospital. After treatment
BDR handed over Singh to BSF on condition that he would be tried in
the court martial.

Acting Commanding Officer of Panchagar 25 Rifle Battalion Major ATM
Mozaffar accompanied by Capt Hasibul Hossain Nabi, Tetulia Upazila
Nirbahi officer Manzur Alam Prodhan and doctors who had treated the
drunken BSF jawan went to Phulbari BSF camp for deposition before the
court martial presided by an Indian Brigadier General.

On return at Tetulia, Major Mozaffar told newsmen that he hoped of a
fair trial. They demanded compensation for the killing of innocent
Bangladeshi nationals.
