Chittagong, Feb 9 (UNB) - The half-day hartal, enforced by Islamli Chhatra Shibir in the port city protesting the killing of its two activists in a clash with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the Chittagong University campus, passed off almost peacefully today (Thursday). All educational institutions and business establishments remained closed due to the strike while the traffic was thin on the streets.Additional police have been deployed at the strategic points of the city to avoid any untoward incident.Shibir activists bought out processions early in the morning in Chalkbazar, Muradpur, Halishahar, Pahartoli and Andarkilla areas, and vandalized 10-15 passing vehicles.Shibir president of Metropolitan (North) unit Ismail claimed that police arrested its 15 activists from the processions in the morning. Amena Begum, Deputy Police Commissioner (North), however, denied the allegation of arrest.Earlier, on Wednesday, two CU students of Chhatra Shibir - Masud bin Habib and Mujahidul Islam - were killed in a fierce clash between Shibir and BCL activists on the campus. The bodies were handed over to their families this morning.
