Pranab’s Visit: Dhaka-Delhi to review progress in bilateral issues

Dhaka, May 3 (UNB) - Bangladesh and India will review the progresses made in different bilateral matters during Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukerjee’s visit to Dhaka on May 5-6.Briefing reporters, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni on Thursday said Pranab Mukherjee will basically come to Dhaka to attend the closing ceremony of the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore.However, during his visit, the Indian Finance Minister will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and meet her when the progresses so far made in different bilateral issues since the Indian Prime Minister’s Dhaka visit in last October will come up for discussion.Dipu Moni said she will attend the closing ceremony of Tagore’s anniversary in New Delhi on May 7.During her stay in New Delhi, the Foreign Minister will hold meeting with her Indian counterpart SM Krishna under the framework of the Joint Commission to discuss the entire range of bilateral matters envisaged in the Bangladesh-India Joint Framework Agreement signed in Dhaka during Manmohan’s visit.Replying to a question, Dipu Moni said the issues like sharing water of the common rivers, connectivity, trade, and border management would figure prominently during her meeting with Krishna. Asked if there is any visible progress in resolving the pending issues since Manmohan’s visit, she said Bangladesh’s volume of export to India has increased to nearly US$ 1 billion from $ 300 million in the last three years. “Don’t you consider it a visible progress?”
