Youth knifed to death in capital; Juvenile slaughtered in Savar

Dhaka, May 02 (UNB) - A youth was stabbed to death in capital`s Jatrabari on Wednesday night while a juvenile was slaughtered sometimes between Tuesday night and early Wednesday in Savar. Police said two rival groups, equipped with sticks and sharp weapons engaged in a fierce clash over establishing dominance at Mirhajirbag in capital`s Jatrabari area leaving an unidentified youth, aged 28, critically injured at 8-30 pm. Police rescued and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead at 10-30 pm. DMCH sources said he died before arrival at the hospital as he was bleeding profusely because of multiple stab wounds. Tension prevailed at Mirhajirbagh till early hours of Thursday. UNB Savar correspondent adds: Rana, 16, a worker at Ulail Steel Mill of Savar, was slaughtered, allegedly by his friends Mamun and other unidentified juveniles at Bharari village at Tetuljhara union in Savar upazila sometimes between late night on Tuesday and early Wednesday. His mother Mukta Begum said that his friend Mamun and another friend called him out of his residence on Tuesday night. Locals found his slaughtered body at a maize field and informed police who recovered and sent it to DMCH for autopsy in the afternoon. Mamun, son of Abdul Aziz, was arrested from his ancestral home at Parkhajura village in Manirampur upazila in Jessore district in the late afternoon. Drive was going on to arrest the other killers, Savar Model thana police said. Rana was the son of Nannu Mia of Palashi village of Singair upazila of Manikganj district.
