Death toll rises to 5 in Bagerhat road crash

Bagerhat, May 03 (UNB) – Five people were killed and at least 12 others injured when a bus hit a truck on Khulna-Maowa highway at Boalia in Mollahat upazila on Wednesday afternoon. Two of the dead are Rabeya Begum, 35, and Abdul Aziz, 45. Identity of the three other dead, aged between 35-45 and one of them female, could not be ascertained. ANM Khairul Anam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mollahat police station said a Khulna-bound bus from Gopalganj hit a sand-laden truck from behind, leaving two bus passengers killed on the spot and at least 15 others injured. Four of the injured were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where tree of them succumbed to injuries at night. The two other dead bodies were sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police seized the bus, but its driver and helper managed to escape. A case was filed.
