Dhaka, June 2 (UNB) - Three police officers were closed on Saturday in connection with the sexual harassment of a litigant girl and assault on journalists at the Police Club on the premises of Dhaka Magistrate's Court last week.Harun-or-Rashid, Deputy Police Commissioner (Lalbagh zone), told UNB that Rajib-al-Masud, Assistant Police Commissioner (Lalbagh zone), Salahuddin Khan, officer-in charge of Kotwali Police Station, and Faruque Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Bangsal Police Station were closed to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Headquarters for their negligence of duty during the incident.On May 29, two sub-inspectors of Kotwali Police Station assaulted and harassed the 15-year-old girl, her parents on the premises of Dhaka magistrate's court.As the victim was narrating the incident to the reporters, the policemen beat up the girl, six journalists and four lawyers.The following day, the High Court summoned eight police officials in connection with the incident.The court asked Harun-or-Rashid, Deputy Police Commissioner (Lalbagh zone), Rajib-al-Masud, an Assistant Police Commissioner, Salahuddin Khan, officer-in charge of Kotwali Police Station, sub-inspectors Jahangir, Zaman, Nuruzzaman Sarker and AmirAfjal Biplab and the president of the Police Club to appear before the court at 10:30am on June 6 to explain their role in the incident.The HC also directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to submit two reports within 48 hours containing the details of the incident, background of the responsible police officers, their activities, and steps taken against them after the incident.
