4 get life term for kidnapping boy in Sylhet

Sylhet, June 15 (UNB) – A court here on Thursday convicted four people and sentenced them to life imprisonment for kidnapping a boy in 2004.The convicts were identified as Mohammad Sad Ullah Mastar, son of Ishak Ali, Sahidur Rahman, son of Abdur Rahim, Mohammad Nazim Uddin, son of Aftab Uddin of Chotodesh village in Kanaighat upazila and Joynal Abedin, son of Jabed Ali of Noagram village in Jakiganj upazila.The court also fined the convicts Tk one lakh each, in default, to suffer three years RI more.According to the prosecution, Humayun Rashid, 14, son of Alauddin of Chotodesh village in Kanaighat upazila was kidnapped by the convicts on December 4, 2004.Later, the kidnappers demanded Tk 8 lakh as ransom in a letter and asked Alauddin to take his son from Darbast bazaar after paying the ransom money to Abdul Jalil, a resident of the village.Police arrested Sahidur Rahman following a case lodged by victim’s father. Later, on the basis of his confessional statement police recovered Humayun Rashid from the house of Joynal Abedin.After examining the records and 15 witnesses, Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abul Kashem Mohammad Mostafa handed down the verdict.
