Week-long art exhibition begins in city

Dhaka, June 18 (UNB) – A week-long art exhibition titled “Class of 1979 Charukala” by 13 artists began at Gallery Cosmos-2 in the city’s Mohakhali area on Monday.Danish Ambassador in Dhaka Svend Olling inaugurated the event as the chief guest in the afternoon at House-115, Road-6 of New DOHS in Mohakhali.Gallery Cosmos chairman Enayetullah Khan, former MP Anjuman Ara Jamil and eminent artist Shamarjit Roy Chowdhury were present at the programme supported by Cosmos Group, Cosmos-Atelier71 Printmaking Studio and Shaheed Colonel Jamil Foundation.Works of Ariff Shaheen, Afroza Jamil, Dhananjoy Chandra Mondal, Dilruba Latif Rosy, Fahmi Khan, Lala Rukh Selim, Md Rezauzzaman, Mokhlesur Rahman, Sharif, Shapan Kumar Sikdar, Syeda Mahbuba Karim, Uttam Kumar Karmakar and Zahid Mustafa have been put on display at the show.All the artists were the students of 1979 batch of the Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University.The exhibition will remain open from 11 am to 8 pm every day except Sunday until June 24.Addressing on the occasion, the Danish Ambassador said the fine arts of Bangladesh are charming like the beauty of nature.Enayetullah Khan said the colour of art works being displayed at Gallery Cosmos-2 overwhelmed him when he entered it.Artist Rezauzzman made physically challenged people subject in his works while Fahmi Khan tried to create awareness about breast cancer depicting the sorrow of cancer victims through arts.
