Olympic Day Run observed in capital and elsewhere in country

Dhaka, June 23 (UNB) – The Olympic Day Run-2012, a global program of International Olympic Committee (IOC), was observed in the capital and elsewhere in the country today (Saturday). State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Ahad Ali Sarkar, MP inaugurated the Olympic Day Run at a colorful function on the Engineers’ Institution premises while president of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) General M Abdul Mubeen gave welcome speech.Chief of Bangladesh Navy, Chief of Bangladesh Air Force, BOA secretary general Kutubuddin Ahmed, Convenor of Olympic Day Run Committee and BOA VP Sirajul Islam Bachchu, member secretary of the committee and BOA deputy secretary general Anisur Rahman Dipu and high civil and military officials were present.On completion of the Olympic Day Run at the gate of Bangabandhu National Stadium, certificates were distributed among the participants at the entry point and a cultural function was arranged inside the stadium. This year’s Olympic Day Run was observed in 64 districts and seven Divisional Headquarters of the country in addition to mega program in Dhaka. Earlier, Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) has arranged a three-day program in the capital on the occasion of the Olympic Day Run-2012. The program included tree plantation, seminar, painting competition, blood donation programme, sports for intellectually challenged and a daylong free health care service.
