Bangladesh MPs defeat UK MPs by 47 runs in a friendly cricket match at Oval

Dhaka, June 23 (UNB) - Bangladesh Parliament Members’ team, led by Nazmul Hassan Papon, defeated UK Members of Parliament team by 47 runs in a friendly cricket match at Oval Stadium in London on Thursday. Later, the champion trophy was handed over to the captain of Bangladesh MPs team Nazmul Hassan Papon MP.Batting first, Bangladesh MPs team scored 213 runs in 20 overs featuring a half century by Zahid Hasan Russell. In reply British MPs team were all out for 166 runs. Bangladesh MPs team went to London on June 18 to play a friendly cricket match with British Members of Parliament at the invitation of former British Prime Minister Sir John Major and ruling Conservative MPs. UK Members of Parliament team participated in a similar type of friendly cricket match at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium six months back as a part of their view exchange and relation building program in Bangladesh. At that time Bangladesh MPs were invited to participate in another friendly cricket match in the UK.Earlier, the MPs delegation exchanged views with All Party Parliamentary Committee and also Conservative Party MPs in the House of Commons. They also attended a reception party organized by Conservative Friends of Bangladesh which was attended by Secretary of State including Anne Maine MP, Nicky Morgan MP and others. A large number of people from Bangladeshi communities including High Commissioner of Bangladesh were present. Bangladesh Parliament members team included: Nazmul Hassan Papon MP (captain) (Kishoreganj-6), Md. Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP (vice captain) (Gazipur-2), Talukder Md.Touhid Jong (Murad), MP (Dhaka-19), Zunaid Ahmed Polok, MP (Natore-3), Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP (Dinajpur-2), Md.Shafiqul Islam Apu, MP (Jhenaidah-2), Mustaque Ahmed Ruhi, MP (Netrakona-1) , Md. Shariar Alam, MP (Rajshahi-6), Mohammed Shah Alam, MP (Brahmanbaria-4), Shamsul Haq Chowdhury, MP (Chittagong-11) and Dr. Md. Murad Hasan, MP (Jamalpur-4). Nasrul Hamid Bipu, MP (Dhaka-3) accompanied the team as manager.John Redwood, MP, Bob Blackman, MP, Mark Lancaster, MP, Richard Hillar, MP, Edward Davies, MP, and Graham Stuart, MP participated from British MP side.
