DU announces Tk 306.2cr budget

Dhaka, June 27 (UNB) - Dhaka University authorities on Wednesday announced a Tk 306.2 crore budget for fiscal 2012-13, showing a deficit of Tk 36.8 crore. DU Treasurer Prof Dr Kamal Uddin placed the budget at a two-day Senate Session at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium at 4 pm. Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique chaired the session participated by its members. The proposed budget will be approved on Thursday. Of the total budget, the University Grants Commission (UGC) will provide Tk 237.4 crore as government grant while Tk 32 crore will come from the university’s internal income. An amount of Tk 2.92 crore has been earmarked in the budget for research works. The university authorities also placed the revised budget of Tk 286.88 crore for fiscal 2011-12 and it will be approved on Thursday.    Teachers of the BNP-Jamaat-backed ‘White Panel’ boycotted the session for 10 minutes.
