Khaleda shocked at loss of lives in rain-induced devastation

Dhaka, June 27 (UNB) – Leader of the Opposition and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Wednesday expressed her deep shock at the loss of lives and property in a series of hill slides and other incident caused by ceaseless rains in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban districts.  At least 100 people were killed and many more remained missing in separate incidents of hill slide, wall collapse, lightning and boat capsize in the three southern districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.In a condolence message, Khaleda prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and early recovery of the injured. “I’m very much shocked and disappointed like the countrymen over the deaths of innocent people in the natural disaster. I don’t have any language to condole such tragic incidents,“ the ex-premier said.She expressed her profound sympathy for the victims' families and prayed to the Almighty to give strength to the survivors to overcome the losses and start all over again.Khaleda also urged the government to take immediate steps to rescue the missing people and ensure proper treatment for the injured.
