Dhaka, July 16 (UNB) - Defence counsel for detained BNP MP Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, who faces the charges of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War, closed the cross-examination of the prosecution witness No 7 with only two questions on Monday. After concluding his deposition before the three-member tribunal, headed by Justice M Nizamul Huq, defence counsel Ahsanul Huq Hena asked Abbas Uddin Ahmed only two questions as the PW did not involve his client in his deposition. Denying a defence suggestion, Abbas told the tribunal, “It’s not a fact that then president of East Pakistan Muslim League Fazlul Quader Chowdhury along with his family members had not made rave when they were asked for getting down from their car at Unasattarpoara makeshift checkpost on April 11, 1971.On another suggestion, the PW-6 said it was not a fact that Pakistan occupation army had not carried out genocide at Hindu-dominated Unasattarpara, Jagotmallapara and Kundeshwari areas in April 1971 as it was hearsay. While giving his deposition before the tribunal, the conducting prosecutor, Zead Al Malum, asked him whether any local Razakar accompanied the Pakistan occupation army during their operations at Unasattarpara and other Hindu-dominated areas. Replying to the prosecutor, Unasattarpara resident Abbas, incumbent Purba Gujra UP chairman under Raozan thana in Chittagong district, told the tribunal that he had heard from the local people about Salauddin Quader Chowdhury collaborating with the Pakistan occupation army during the operation. “I didn’t see Salauddin Quader Chowdhury accompanying the army during operation.” Before closing his deposition, Abbas identified the accused in the dock.
