Human chain demands hearing on land cases in CHT

Dhaka, Aug 9 (UNB) – Chittagong Hill Tracts Equal Rights Movement formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club on Thursday to press home their nine-point demand, including hearing on 5,000 cases of the CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission.The demands also included launching land survey in CHT and scrapping decision on 13-point amendment to land law.Moniruzzaman Monir, chief coordinator of the organization, Advocate Mohammad Alam Khan, secretary general of CHT Human Legal Association, Abul Kalam Azad, general secretary of Jatiya Nagorik Sangsad, among others, addressed the programme.Addressing on the occasion, speakers called upon the authorities to accept their demands for ensuring land and human rights of all the residents of the CHT region.They also demanded ban on two parties---Jana Sanghati Samity, led by Santu Larma, and UPDF, headed by Prosit Khisa--for their ‘illegal activities’.
