Dhaka, Aug 12 (UNB) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday expressed profound shock at the death of a Bangladeshi policeman serving in UN peacekeeping mission in violence-torn Darfur, a western region of Sudan. Asgar Ali, 42, was shot dead by 'rebels' on Saturday. He left Bangladesh to join the mission in July last. Ali hailed from Santhia in Pabna and was a police constable. In a condolence message, the Prime Minister said the nation would remember the great sacrifice of Asgar with deep respect as a member of the UN peacekeeping mission, said PM’s Special Assistant (Media) Mahbubul Haque Shakil. The Prime Minister prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family. Ali, who joined police in 1996, is survived by wife and two sons.
