School, college teachers demand full bonus

Dhaka, Sept 19 (UNB) - Teachers of the secondary and higher secondary educational institutions on Wednesday demanded full bonus before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.Bangladesh Shikkhak Samity and Bangladesh Shikkhak-Karmachari Sangrami Oikya Parishad at a joint meeting in the city came up with the decision.Both the platforms also reached an understanding to wage a joint countrywide movement on a five-point charter of demands, including the nationalisation of the jobs of all the teachers working in private educational institutions at the secondary and higher secondary levels.Bangladesh Shikkhak Samity president Md Nazrul Islam Rony told UNB on Monday that they gave the government until September 30 to meet their demands. “If the demands are not met by the time, we’ll declare harsher programmes on the World Teachers Day to be observed on October 5,” he said.A present, he said, teachers working in private institutions are getting only 25 percent of the basic as Eid bonus. “We demand 100 percent bonus for the Eid-ul-Azha,” Nazrul said.
