News - Bangladesh to always get US support, says Congressman Peter King
Dhaka, Feb 3 (UNB) - Congressman Peter King has said as a strong ally of the US, Bangladesh will always receive Washington’s support.
“US support will always be there for Bangladesh because Bangladesh is a strong ally of the US,” he said during a meeting with Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Akramul Qader at Capitol Hill in Washington on Tuesday.

The US Congressman assured the Bangladesh Ambassador that he would strongly support any bill in the Congress on duty-free access for the Bangladeshi products to the US market, according to a release from Bangladesh Mission in Washington received here today.
Akramul Qader said that to make democracy meaningful the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken all necessary steps. Bangladesh and the US have been cooperating in mutually beneficial areas including the area of counter-terrorism.

He hoped that as in the past the US Congress would continue to play its crucial role in promoting bilateral relations between Dhaka and Washington.

The Ambassador referred to the Resolution passed by the US Congress in September 2008 on the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh, which helped the return of democracy in the country through a free and fair election.

He thanked Congressman King for his words of support and assistance to ensure duty-free access to the US market for Bangladeshi products.
Ambassador Quader also sought the Congressman’s assistance for the Bangladesh nationals living in different places of the US with regard to their immigration related documents.
Congressman King wanted to know about the various development activities in Bangladesh. He assured of his assistance in respect of the issues raised by the Ambassador.
