News - SCBA castigates Barrister Moudud for “smear campaign” against judiciary
Dhaka, Feb 7 (UNB) - The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Sunday strongly criticized Barrister Moudud Ahmed for a “smear campaign” against the Appellate Division order upholding the High Court verdict that had scrapped the 5th amendment paving the way for restoring the basic fundamentals, including secularism, of the post-independence 1972 Constitution.

In a resolution at its emergency general meeting, the SCBA also condemned the recent remarks of BNP stalwart Barrister Moudud MP about the apex court, saying that his “recent utterances amount to tarnishing the image of the highest judiciary and contemptuous as well.”

Terming Barrister Moudud as the bootlicker of military rulers, the SCBA meeting said that in the past he caused the judiciary to be divided ignoring the Constitution at the whims of his masters.

The SCBA called upon all concerned to pay due respect to the highest judiciary and forge social resistance against those who disobey and disparage the orders of the highest court.

The meeting, with SCBA president AFM Mesbahuddin in the chair, was addressed, among others, by Syed Mamun Mahbub, Rabiul Alam Budu, Azhar Ullah Buiyan, Mahbub Ali, KM Saifuddin Ahmed, Abdul Matin Khasru, Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Rokanuddin Mahmud, M Amir-Ul Islam, Abdul Baset Majumder and SM Rezaul Karim.
