European Parliament delegation holds meeting with APPG

Dhaka, Feb 14 (UNB) - A seven-member delegation of the European Parliament had a meeting with All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Climate Change and Environment at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban Sunday.

Speaker M Abdul Hamid Advocate attended the meeting a chief guest.

Mentioning various programmes taken by the government for addressing adverse effect of climate change, eliminating poverty and ensuring the socioeconomic development of the country’s people, the Speaker said Bangladesh has been enable to achieve some 6 percent of growth despite the global financial recession and various natural calamities.

He lauded the role of APPG in eliminating poverty as well as addressing issues relating to climate change and environment.

Abdul Hamid Advocate hoped that the lawmakers of Bangladesh and Britain would work together on various international issues.

Led by European Parliament member and South Asia delegation Chair Jean Lambert, the delegation members included European Parliament members John Attard-Montalto, Thomas Mann, Nirij Deva and Licia Ronzulli.

Lawmakers Abdul Matin Khashru, M Fazle Rabbi Mia, Hasanul Haque Inu, Tanvir Sakil Joy, Col (retd) AA Maruf Saklan, M Shahriar Alam, Nazrul Islam Manju, Mahbub Ara Begum Gini, M Shammi Akhter and Syeda Ashifa Papiya attended the meeting on behalf of APPG.
