Dhaka, Feb 22 (UNB) - The High Court on Monday exonerated Shamim Islam, managing director of Jamuna Builders Limited, from contempt charge as he prayed unequivocal apology for his contemptuous act.

Appearing in person before a High Court division bench, contemner-Shamim sought unequivocal apology for his contemptuous act of misquoting a court order in two separate appeals submitted to the chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) over Jamuna Future Park Shopping Complex.

“I will not do such an act in future,” Shamim Islam promised bowing down before the court.

After hearing from the contemner, the HC division bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Borhan Uddin exempted him from the contempt charge, disposing of the rule issued upon him earlier.

On February 8, the bench upon a contempt petition by Rajuk chairman issued the rule asking Shamim Islam to explain in 10 days why proceedings should not be drawn against him for misquoting and distorting the High Court orders over Jamuna Future Park Shopping Complex.

Passing the contempt rule, the HC bench had asked the contemner to appear in person before the court today (Monday) for giving his explanations.

On February 3, the HC summarily rejected a writ petition filed by Jamuna Builders Ltd challenging the legitimacy of a Rajuk notice that had asked for dismantling within seven days the unauthorized top four floors of the 10-storey Jamuna Future Park Shopping Complex at Kuril in the capital.

Advocate Ahsanul Karim appeared for Shamim Islam while advocate AFM Mesbahuddin stood for Rajuk chairman.
