News - Gov could go for redeploying army in CHT to maintain peace; Sahara
Dhaka, Feb 23 (UNB)-Home Minister Sahara Khatun Tuesday said that, if necessary, the government would think about redeployment of army in the Chittagong Hill Tracts to maintain peace, as tribal- settler strife rocked the hills again.

Responding to questions about the evolving situation in the CHT, she said the government has asked the law-enforcing agencies to “handle the situation with an iron hand”.

In reply to a question the Home Minister said, “Whoever remains behind the chaos-Shanti Bahini, terrorists or militants--the government is prepared to tackle the situation.”

Asked about deployment of the army, she said if necessary, the government would think about it.

Earlier, the Home Minister distributed cards for agriculture inputs among farmers at Kanchpura in Uttarkhan in the city.
