Sangsad Bhaban, Mar 1 (UNB) - Opposition BNP staged walkout from parliament in an angry protest as Awami League stalwart Suranjit Sengupta Monday came up with an allegation that Jamaat-e-Islami is directly involved in militant activities in Bangladesh with patronage from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
He made the stinging comment in parliament standing on a point of order, a day after suspected Pakistani militant was held in Dhaka along with some locals.
Quoting newspaper reports, Sengupta said that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a Pakistani national and four locals for their suspected links to the Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed.
This is the first time that law enforcers here captured suspected members of Jaish-e-Mohammed, one of the major terrorist outfits reportedly operating in South Asia’s underworld.
Suranjit said RAB officials mentioned that Mohiuddin Mian had sheltered militants in Bangladesh. Mohiuddin, now president of Hajiganj union BNP in Chandpur, had earlier been involved with Jamaat-e-Islami.
He thanked the Home Minister for her great achievement in arresting the Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives.
“She and her law-enforcing agencies saved lives of numerous people of the South Asian countries,” said the ruling-party lawmaker.
He drew the inference that this incident proved that “BNP and its allies are involved in militancy in Bangladesh”.
Sengupta also pointed out the recent bomb explosion in front of the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office. Police dug out that son of BNP secretary-general Khandaker Delwar Hossain, Paban, as the mastermind, he told the House.
“I demand statement of the Home Minister on these two incidents,” he said.
In protest against his remarks, the BNP lawmakers walked out of the assembly chamber.
