167 Jamaat-Shibir activits sent to jail in Rajshahi

Rajshahi, Mar 3 (UNB)- A court here on Wednesday sent 167 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir to jail on charge of police assault case filed in connection with the February 9 rampage on Rajshahi University campus.

The arrested persons include Rajshahi Jamaat Ameer Ataur Rahman, its General Secretary Abul Kalam Azad and RU syndicate member Siddik Hossain.

Out of them, 162 persons were produced before Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court (CMM) at around 12noon, as the March 3 was the scheduled date in the case.

Five of the accused did not appear before the court as they were allowed to attend examinations.

Of the total, 97 were arrested in Rajshahi alone while the rest from different parts of the country.

The law enforcers held the Jamaat and Shibir men conducting countrywide crackdown following the Chhatra League (BCL)-Shibir clash on the campus that left a BCL worker Faruq Hossain killed and over hundred injured.
