Dhaka, Mar 4 (UNB) - With a view to enabling volunteers from home and abroad to learn on organic farms, a website of WWOOF Bangladesh will be launched at the IUBAT Conference Hall on Sunday.
Professor M Alimullah Miyan, Vice Chancellor and Founder of IUBAT and John Vanden Heuvel, Coordinator of WWOOF Canada, will jointly inaugurate the website www.wwoofbangladesh.org <http://www.wwoofbangladesh.org>.
WWOOF stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, which is now part of a worldwide network of over 50 other national WWOOF Organizations that enable volunteers to come and help out and learn on organic farms in exchange of accommodation, meals and an interesting cultural experience.
IUBAT - International University of Business, Agriculture & Technology, located at Uttara, has become the headquarters of a new International Volunteer Organization, called WWOOF Bangladesh.
Talking to UNB Dr Mohammed Ataur Rahman, Director, Centre for Global Environmental Culture (CGEC) and Program on Education for Sustainability of IUBAT said WWOOF exists in dominant countries such as Australia, New Zealand, England, USA and Canada, besides Japan, Korea, India, Nepal, in Europe and many other countries.
He said that WWOOF is possibly the world's largest voluntary organization and now Bangladesh has joined this amazing international network. “WWOOF supports and promotes organic & sustainable agriculture.”
