Dhaka, Mar 5 (UNB) - Bangladesh Awami League has chalked out various programmes to observe the historic March 7 in a befitting manner.
The party will hoist national and party flags at all party offices and Bangabandu Bhaban at 6:00am, place wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban at 7:30am and hold a discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Center at 3:00pm, said a press release today (Friday).
AL presidium member and Deputy Leader in Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury will preside over the discussion meeting.
AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam urged all the party units and front organisations to observe the day with due respect.
On March 7 in 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave a clarion call for non-cooperation movement and asked the nation to prepare for the war of liberation from the exploitative Pakistani regime.
“The struggle this time is for freedom, the struggle this time is for independence, Joy Bangla,” Bangabandhu declared from a mammoth rally at the historic Race Course maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan).
Bangabandhu's speech worked like a magic spell inspiring the entire Bangali nation to join the struggle for independence from the autocratic and repressive rule of the then Pakistani military junta.
