Transport workers put up road barricade to protest beating of a driver

Dhaka, Mar 8 (UNB)- Traffic movements from Bijoy Sarani to Uttara was halted for two hours as transport workers put barricade near Mohakhali flyover Monday afternoon.

Witnesses said angry workers put the road barricade as a driver of Ekushey Paribahan was assaulted allegedly by RAB personnel at noon.

Two plainclothes youths riding on a motorbike gave a signal to stop the bus of Ekushey Paribahan near RAOA Club. As bus driver Saifuddin ignored to stop the bus, the plainclothes men claiming them as RAB members dragged the driver out of the bus and mercilessly beat him. The driver was rushed to a local hospital.

After the incident, transport workers put up barricade beneath the Mohakhali flyover at about 4:00 pm creating sever traffic jam from Bijoy Sarani to Uttara.

The workers withdrew their barricade after two hours following a meeting between senior police officers and leaders of transport owners and workers union.
