Dhaka, Mar 10 (UNB)-President Zillur Rahman Wednesday asked the Army Chief to take necessary measures for modernizing the army through increasing necessary training on latest military know-how.

The president, also the supreme commander of the armed forces, gave the directive when Army Chief General M Abdul Mubeen called on him at Bangabhaban and apprised him of various matters of the service, including his upcoming India tour.

During the meeting, Zillur Rahman said necessary measures should be taken to increase the professional skill of the army. “It’s very necessary to increase training facilities and exchange experiences in this regard.”

The Army Chief apprised the president that he would go to India on March 14 for a six-day visit at the invitation of his Indian counterpart and would have meetings for exchange of mutual experiences. He will come back on March 20.

Recalling the BDR carnage, the president expressed his deep grief over the incidents staged on February 25 last year at the BDR headquarters and enquired about the family members of the victims. He asked the army chief to ensure that the family members of victims have got government facilities.

The president lauded the role of the Army Chief, also the chief of Bangladesh Olympic Association, in successfully completing the South Asian games last month.

General Mubeen requested the president to attend the display of war-weapons at the Military Museum from March 25, on the eve of the national Independence Day.

He also apprised the president of various development activities of the Bangladesh Army.
Secretaries concerned of the president’s office were present at the meeting.
