News - PM informs parliament about residential plots, flats in Dhaka, district and upazila levels
Sangsad Bhaban, Mar 10 (UNB) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said the National Housing Authority has undertaken a plan to develop residential plots and build flats in Dhaka and different district and upazila levels under a mega-scheme called Sights and Services Project.

Replying to Golam Dastgir Gazi (AL) about accommodation problem for middle-income group, she said housing for lower-and middle-income people has been earmarked in the Detailed Area Plan of the Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha (Rajuk).

The Prime Minister reiterated that 4.55 acres of land is reserved in Jhilmil residential project while 15.53 acres of land allocated to construct multi-storey buildings with capacity of about 10,000 flats for these two groups of people.

Besides, she said, in Uttara 3rd-phase housing project, some 40.51 acres of land has been earmarked for limited-income people and 10.917 acres for these groups.

Moreover, 67.011 acres of land has been kept for constructing 22,512 flats of different dimensions of 850 sq ft, 1050 sq ft and 1250 sq ft.

The Prime Minister told the House that in Purbachal New Town project, 96.27 acres are kept reserved for lower-and mid-income groups. Besides, 291.33 acres of land remained earmarked for constructing 20,000 flats of 800-1200 sq ft.

“To resolve the housing problem of the growing population in Dhaka City, the government has a plan to build four satellite towns around Dhaka Metropolitan City,” she told the lawmakers.
