Dhaka, Mar 10 (UNB) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) got till April 21 for further investigation into the BDR mutiny case, while the trial proceedings are already underway.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Enamul Haque’s court extended the time upon a petition by Special Police Super of the CID and investigation officer of the case Abdul Kahar Akand Wednesday, the day previously set for submission of the probe report before the court.
Additional Public Prosecutor (PP) Mohammad Anwarul Kabir Babul told UNB that many accused are still divulging new information during their remand while many others are giving confessional statement.
“The probe report will be submitted before the court after authenticating information squeezed from the accused in their confessional statement as well as during remand,” Babul said.
On Feb 25-26 last year, BDR personnel staged the mutiny at the BDR Headquarters at Pilkhana over low pay and poor condition, and the uprising sparked off mutinous demonstrations in other establishments of the border force across the country.
At least 73 people, including 57 army officers deputed to the paramilitary force, were killed at the BDR headquarters during the February 25-26 mayhem.
Over 2,200 suspects, including former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, have so far been arrested in connection with the mutiny case.
