Sangsad Bhaban, mar 15 (UNB)- Former Speaker and BNP lawmaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar said in parliament Monday that the firing by the Indian Border Security Force that injured several Bangladeshi nationals was a complete violation of international and national laws.

“BSF intruded 1.5 kms inside Bangladesh territory and opened fire…It raises questions over our sovereignty,’ he said on a point of order.

Barrister Sircar pointed out that it was particularly offensive that the BSF opened fire on innocent Bangladeshis at a time when army chief Gen Mubin is visiting India, and three days after the BDR-BSF Director General meeting held in New Delhi .

He said under no circumstances should Indian BSF trespass into Bangladesh territory and open fire. This is not new, he said, as the Indian BSF also frequently trespasses into his constituency, Tentulia.

As Sircar made his remarks, the Speaker intervened and said the Home Minister or the Foreign Minister will make a statement in parliament at their convenient time.
