Turkish govt. to provide support in river dredging, DMCH Phase-II
PM’s request to import Readymade Garments, Ceramic, Pharmaceutical items, leather goods, tea from Bangladesh

Dhaka, Mar 30 (UNB)-The Turkish govt is going to support Bangladesh in dredging its rivers, and in implementing the much-expected Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Phase-II project inside the existing hospital premises.
Outgoing Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Sakir Ozkan Torunlar said this when he paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Tuesday morning.
The ambassador further said that his country wants to provide modern training to nurses of Bangladesh to further enhance their professional skills and experience, according to Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, who briefed newsmen.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hasina called upon the Turkish government and entrepreneurs to import Bangladeshi Readymade Garments, Ceramics, Pharmaceutical items, leather goods and tea, as the country produces these goods up to international standards.
She informed the outgoing envoy that Bangladesh is already exporting these items to various European countries.
The Prime Minister noted that Bangladesh and Turkey are working closely in different multilateral forums, including the UN, the D-8 and the OIC for global peace and stability.
Hasina appreciated the Turkish decision of operating Dhaka-Istanbul flights, as people-to-people contacts have increased in recent times.
She said this would also facilitate trade and business between the two countries.
The Turkish envoy eulogized the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and hoped for Bangladesh to turn into a developed country by 2021 under the able leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
He also expressed his gratitude to the government and the people of the country for extending their all out cooperation throughout his stay in Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Hasina also reiterated Bangladesh’s strong stance in protecting planet Earth from global warming, and apprised the Turkish diplomat of Bangladesh’s role in climate change issues as leader of the most vulnerable countries (MVCs) at COP15 in Copenhagen last December.
Besides, the Prime Minister and the envoy also discussed a wide range of bilateral issues including further expansion of trade and business between the two countries.
Among others, Adviser to the Prime Minister Professor Dr Gowher Rizvi, Ambassador-at-Large M Ziauddin, Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Molla Waheeduzzaman and Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were present.
