Dhaka, Apr 19 (UNB)-Detained ex-state minister for education ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has secured bail for three months from the High Court, in a case of non-submission of election return.
Passing the interim order upon a petition, an HC division bench comprising Justice Siddiqur Rahman Miah and Justice Krishna Devnath also issued a rule asking the government to explain within four weeks why the accused-petitioner should not be granted regular bail in the case.
On July 28 last year, district election officer of Chandpur filed the case with Chandpur police station against the BNP leader for not submitting his election return for the December 2008 parliamentary election within the stipulated time.
Despite the HC’s bail order, Milon’s release from jail remains a distant reality, as he has been arrested in five other cases, his counsel Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokan said.
Milon, who had been on the run, was sent to jail on March 14 after he surrendered before a Chandpur court in another criminal case.
