Dhaka, Aug 13 (UNB) - Criticising the Awami League government’s last 200 days’ rule, BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed Wednesday said the real face of the ruling party has been exposed with the submission of charge sheet against Khaleda.
“On one way, they’re recommending withdrawal of the cases against PM Sheikh Hasina terming those as cases of harassments and on the other charge sheets are being submitted against Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia for her cases,” he told a seminar at the Jatiya Press Club.
Citizen Forum organised the seminar to evaluate the 200 days’ rule of the AL-led grand alliance government.
The seminar was told that a total of 592 people were killed, 6201 injured and 411 government officials made OSD while 41 incidents of extortion and 29 extra-judicial killings took place in the country during the AL’ 200 days rule.
BNP leader and former Water Resources minister Major Hafizuddin Ahmed, Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Barrister Abdur Razzak and Islami Oikya Jote Secretary General Abdul Latif Nezami, BNP leader Wing Commander (retd) Hamidullah Khan and Dhaka University teacher Prof Quamrul Ahsan also spoke at the function.
Barrister Moudud said these “harassment-cases” were filed against both the leaders by the caretaker government. “So, both the leaders should deserve equal treatment.”
He said day by day it is getting clear that AL is trying to establish a one-party rule again where the opposition party will have no role to play.
He observed that the country’s law and order situation is deteriorating fast due to the government’s patronage to local extortionists and criminals. “The prices of essentials are also going up sharply.”
The opposition lawmaker accused the ruling AL of making parliament dysfunctional. “Thought this is apparently a democratic one, actually it is a government of a one-party rule,” he claimed.
Harshly criticising the government move to pull out troops from the hill tracts, Barrister Moudud said this would endanger the country’s sovereignty. “This is a great threat to our national security”.
Hafizuddin Ahmed said it is very frustrating and shameful that the ministers of this government are speaking in favour of Tipaimukh dam to appease India.
During the BNP rule, he said, letters were sent to Indian government four times asking them to suspend all activities relating to Tipaimukh dam construction.
“We’d urged the neighbouring country to first conduct a joint study before moving for the Tipaimukh dam. But they did not agree with our proposal.”
