Dhaka, May 7 (UNB)-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Friday said Nobel poet Rabindranath Tagore would remain as inspiration to fight against fundamentalism, communalism and autocracy.

In a message on the occasion of 179th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, she said Tagore’s philosophy, thought and effort showed the Bangalis enlightened path in the fields of education, social reform, poverty alleviation, attaining self-sufficiency and preservation of environment.

“Rabindranath time and again touched our spirit and mindset in our personal, social and national life at the critical juncture,” the Prime Minister said.

Recalling his powerful literary works, Hasina said his writings encouraged the Bengali nation during the movement against the British regime, Language Movement and War of Liberation.

Paying rich tributes to Rabindranath, the Prime Minister said one his great songs--Amar Sonar Bangla-has been recognized as national anthem of Bangladesh.
