Munshiganj, May 13 (UNB) - Rasheda Begum, 28, who went to Lebanon with job barely 42 days ago, has committed suicide to protect her purity.

The body returned home with a note from Lebanese hospital that Rasheda has committed suicide by jumping down from the rooftop.

Her husband Sohrab Sheikh of Nateshwar village in Tongibari upazila claimed that Rasheda, employed as household assistant, committed suicide for protecting her sanctity.

Mother of three children Rasheda flew to Lebanon on March 31 in a bid to overcome poverty.

Local agents Suman and Bacchu Dalal in lieu of Tk 60,000 arranged her job abroad. Manpower agent Abul Kashem of Banani in Dhaka City sent her to Lebanon with job of household assistant on a monthly salary of Tk 10,000, said Sohrab.

Tongibari thana officer Abdullah said they will investigate into the matter if and when complaint is received.

Informed sources said the agents who brokered Rasheda’s employment abroad are asking her husband with threat not to inform the matter to the police.
