News - Suranjit proposes parliamentary committee to inquire into Nimtoli Fire
Sangsad Bhaban, June 7 (UNB)- Awami League senior member Suranjit Sengupta in parliament tonight proposed for constituting an all party parliamentary committee to inquire into the devastating fire at Nimtoli in old Dhaka city that burnt to death at least 118 people on June 3.

He said findings of the proposed committee should be placed in the House for discussion and persons responsible for the incident must be made accountable to the law.

In an emotion charged voice, Suranjit said, “It’s not a mere accident, it’s murderous.”

He was supported by Chief Whip Abdus Shaheed and Dhirendra Chandra Devnath Shambhu.

Shaheed said a decision on the proposal would be taken in consultation with the Leader of the House.

Mujibul Huq Chunnu of Jatiya party suggested that all members of parliament should donate one day’s remuneration for the families of the fire victims.
