Rangamati, Aug 18 (UNB) - The Parliamentary Standing Committee on CHT Affairs Tuesday recommended strengthening the taskforce on refugee rehabilitation and implementing a 20-point package as per the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Treaty.
It also recommended the cancellation of allocations of 260 plots of land to those who did not utilize the lands. The lands would be used for rehabilitation of the tribal refugees returned from India.
The recommendations came from the fifth meeting of the committee held at tourist spot ‘Peda Tingtong’ in the town with its member ABM Fazle Karim in the chair.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Promod Mankin MP, State Minister for CHT Affairs Dipankar Talukder MP, chairman of the taskforce on refugee rehabilitation Jatindra Lal Tripura MP, chairman of the CHT Development Board Bir Bahadur MP, Giasuddin Ahmed MP and Ethin
Rakhain MP attended the meeting.
Chairman of the CHT Regional Council Jatirindra Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma and chairman of Rangamati Zila Parishad Nikhil Kumar Chakma attended the meeting on invitation.
Emerging from the meeting, Dipankar Talukder told journalists that the law-and-order situation in the hill region would not deteriorate after the complete pullout of troops as part of implementing the peace accord.
