
Dhaka, Jul 17 (UNB) - A Foreign Ministry official here Saturday said one Bangladeshi victim in Thursday’s Iraq fire has been identified as Harunor Rashid who hailed from Tongi.
Harun used to work in Hotel Suma in northern Iraqi city of Sulaimaniah that caught fire from electric short circuit, leaving 29 people dead.
The Foreign Ministry official could not say precisely whether it would be possible to bring his body to the country. However, he said the Bangladesh embassy in Baghdad is trying to realize compensation from the Iraqi authorities for Harun’s death.
According to unofficial figure, around 10,000 Bangladeshis are working in the trouble-torn Iraq.
