News - Nizami sent to jail after 16-day police remand
Dhaka, July 20 (UNB) - Jamaat chief Maulana Matiur Rahman, accused in five cases including mass killing during the liberation war, was today sent to jail when produced before the court on completion of 16-day police remand.

Seeking bail his counsel argued that Maulana Nizami was not named in the GD. Moreover, 31 others accused in the cases and named in GD had been enlarged on bail. The charges against him were politically motivated. Throwing him into jail is not justified when the co-accused were set free on bail.

Opposing the bail petition the prosecuting lawyer contended that Maulana Nizama will slip out of the country if set free on bail.

CMM court magistrate Quamrunnahar Rumi rejected the bail petition and order Maulana Nizami to prison.
