
Dhaka, July 22 (UNB) - President Zillur Rahman on Thursday called for expanding medical facilities in the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at Dhaka Cantonment by procuring modern and world standard equipment.
The suggestion came when Chief of Army Staff General M Abdul Mubeen called on him at Bangabhaban and apprised the President of his leaving Dhaka on July 24 to visit Bangladeshi peace keepers deployed in different countries including Congo and Ivory Coast.
General Mubeen will also go to the UN Headquarters for a meeting with high officials on the Peace Keepers. Bangladesh has secured the top position in sending the UN peace keeping force in different countries.
He informed the President that 850-bed CMH would be turned into 1100-bed soon. Construction work for extension is going on to add 500 beds near the Armed Forced Medical College in Dhaka Cantonment. It will be completed by May next year..
Another 100-bed Siraj-Khaleda General Hospital at the cantonment will be completed by March 2011, he added.
The Army Chief also informed that the ongoing work on Begunbari-Hatir Jheel project undertaken by the army will be completed in the middle of next year.
Secretary of the President’s Office Safiul Alam, Military Secretary to the President Maj Gen Abul Kalam M Humayun Kabir and Press Secretary to the President A K M Nesar Uddin Bhuiyan were present at the meeting.
