One shot dead, 3 injured in clash of rival groups of traders in Ctg city

Chittagong, July 25 (UNB) - A businessman was shot dead and three others were wounded in a clash between two river groups of traders at Halishahar in the city today.

Abdul Monaf (32), a contractor, wounded by bullet in the chest, died soon after taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Shahed Alam and Shahjahan badly wounded by sharp weapons were admitted to the hospital.

Witnesses said the rival groups led by Monaf and Khokan armed with guns and lethal weapons clashed at about 1 pm over supply of construction materials to Bashundhara residential area at Rampur. Gunman shot in the chest of Monaf leaving him fatally wounded. His associates Shahed and Shahjahan were badly wounded by sharp weapons.

According to the police, earlier in the morning associates of Monaf beat and cut the tendon of Khokan’s father Iman Ali. This angered Khokan. His younger brother Jashim mobilized strength to avenge and launched attack on Monaf and his associates.

Jashim, Dastagir, Sukkur, Bappi and Bablu were arrested. Halishahar thana officer Humayun Kabir said those indulged in terrorism from both groups would be brought to book.
