Sunamganj, Jul 28 (UNB)- Workers today resumed loading and unloading of stone and sand and carry those on their boat 22 days after they went into wild-cat strike protesting illegal toll extortion and harassment by extortionists in Chalti river.
Barki workers (boatmen who collect sand, stone from river and carry those on their boat) agreed to end the strike, enforced on July 6, during a meeting with sand and stone traders today.
But they told UNB that extortionists detained some boats for toll as they resumed plying in Chalti river today. A group of extortionists, led by Mobarak Hossain detained boats and extorted illegal tolls at Urarkanda village today, they alleged.
Mobarak and gang are also preventing them from collecting sand and stone from the river, they added.
