News - Govt fails to negotiate with garment owners, workers on wages: Fakhrul
Dhaka, Jul 30 (UNB)- BNP senior joint secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Friday blamed the government for ‘unstable’ situation in the garment sector as it failed to reach a settlement between owners and workers of garment factories.

Fakhrul made the accusation to reporters over the new wages for garment workers at the mazar premises of President Ziaur Rahman.

On Thursday the new salary structure for RMG workers was announced fixing minimum wage at Tk 3,000 against the workers’ demand for Tk 5,000.

The BNP leader said the wrong policy of the government is responsible for the current ‘unstable’ situation prevailing in the garment sector.

He said the government has failed to take appropriate steps to bring stability in this sector.

About BNP’s national executive committee meeting tomorrow, Fakhrul said the meeting will discuss organizational matters and overall political situation.

Earlier, Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with BNP student affairs secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie MP, who recently released from jail, placed wreaths and offered fathea at the mazar of Ziaur Rahman, founder of BNP.

Annie was arrested on June 27 during BNP’s hartal and released from Dhaka central jail on bail on July 27.
