Gazipur, Aug 11 (UNB) - Six alleged dacoits were lynched by mob at Chhatir bazar after they opened fire wounding a villager tonight.

The identity of the victims was not known. The bodies were lying in hospital.

Witnesses and police said six men aged between 25 and 30 were passing by Chhatir bazaar at about 9-30pm in a small motor vehicle. Their movement raised suspicion among the people who challenged them.

At one stage of altercation the alleged dacoits opened fire leaving Abul Hossain, 40 wounded. He was rushed to nearby Al Hera Clinic.

Angry people gheraoed the dacoits, caught and beat them black and blue. They all died on the spot.

Driver of motor vehicle seriously wounded by mob beating was rescued by the police and admitted to a local clinic. He was identified as Hadiul, 22.

Police seized a pistol, three live bullets and some sharp weapons from the spot.

In an immediate raid in the area police detained four young men for their suspected connection with the alleged dacoits.
