Widening health service network stressed

Barisal, Aug 12 (UNB) - Participants in a programme here on Wednesday stressed on widening health service network of adolescents, reproductive, maternity and child health for poor people.

The dissemination seminar organized at Barisal BDS auditorium by ‘Marie Stops Clinic’ Barisal Society was presided over by Lutfor Rahman, deputy director of family planning Barisal office.

Dr. Anil Chandra Datta, civil surgeon, Dr. Tarun Kanti Shikdar, additional deputy commissioner, Dr. Matiur Rahman, chief health officer Barisal City Corporation, Nizamuddin, deputy director of Islamic Foundation, Rafiqul Islam, Dr. M Hossain Chowdhury and Uzzal Kundu addressed the programme.

More than 40 participants from different institutions, including government officials, journalists, leaders of religious, socio-cultural and development organizations, elected public representatives and other stake holders attended the inter-active seminar with audio-visual presentations.

In the meeting, Marie Stops officials said their European Commission funded project in the region ended on June this year and they are applying for extension of the project searching for new donor.

The participants hailed the activities of Marie Stops Clinics’ stressing on expanding coordinated services of government and non-government networks in health sectors for the people under poverty line especially residing in urban slums and rural areas.
They also emphasized on creating awareness among people about the adolescent, maternity and child health, bad effect of early marriage, sexually transmitted diseases to ensure safe delivery and reduce neonatal death in achieving millennium development goal targets.
