Nat’l Mourning Day observed in Barisal

Barisal, Aug 15 (UNB) - The National Mourning day marking the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed here on Sunday.

Barisal division, district, upazila administrations, educational institutions and different socio-cultural-political organizations arranged proggrammes to observe the day.

Bangladesh Radio Barisal station broadcast special programme and local dailies published special supplements.

Awami League and its front organizations observed the day by wearing black badges, hoisting flags at half-mast, Quran Khwani, milad mahfil, discussion, blood donation camp, cultural function, drama, children rally, poetry recitation and juvenile painting competition.

Many people also visited the houses of Abdur Rob Serniabat, former minister, lawmaker and brother- in-law of Bangabandhu, Baby Serniabat and Arif Serniabat, daughter and son of Abdur Rob Serniabat, Sukanta Babu Serniabat, grandson of Abdur Rob Serniabat and son of Abul Hasanat Abdullah, Journalist Shahid Serniabat, nephew of Abdur Rob Serniabat, and Abdun Naim Khan Rintu, a singer and director of Opsonin Group, the victims of August 15 at the city and Sherol of Agoiljhara upazila, to express their solidarity with the bereaved family members, and offered prayers for the peace of the departed souls of the martyrs.
