Chuadanga, Aug 15 (UNB) - Police arrested three Shibir activists on suspicion that they might have damaged portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Jibannagar upazila town Sunday evening.

Arrested are: Mijanur Rahman Mija, 21, Momin Uddin, 23 and Golam Muktary, 25.

Police said some unidentified miscreants damaged the portraits pasted on the wall of Jibannagar Degree College by throwing cow-dung and mud early Sunday.

As the news spread to the upazila town, Awmi League activists grew angry. Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Bholanath Dey, SP Nazrul Islam, Jibannagar upazila chairman and Awami League leader Golam Mortuza, UNO Abdul Awal and Jibannagar thana OC Munshi Asadujjaman visited the spot.

Golam Mortuza told journalists that miscreants damaged the portraits to foil the August 15 national mourning program.

Police during an instant drive arrested the three Shibir activists from the town.
