Training camp for Asian Games Hockey can’t start as per schedule on Monday

Dhaka, Aug 16 (UNB) - The national training camp for the Asian Games Hockey could not start as per schedule on Monday as the Hockey Federation failed to obtain room allotment for the players from the National Sports Council.

Bangladesh, which miserably finished 5th in the qualifying round of Asian Hockey at home, will play in the Asian Games Hockey slated for November 12-27 in Guangzhou, China.

German coach of national hockey team Gerhard Rach Peter, who arrived in the city on August 11, appeared at the training venue Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in time. But he was informed that the training camp will not start today as the Federation is yet to get room allotment for the players.

The German coach then left the field in a huff expressing his total dissatisfaction about Hockey Federation officials.

Interestingly, the Hockey Federation has not yet named the preliminary national squad although they had announced the training schedule.

Reliable sources, however, said the national squad will include the 18 players, who have been selected for the Europe trip to play in different clubs of Germany and Holland very soon as part of their preparations for the Asian Games.

The 18 selected players: Monwar Hossain Russell, Zahid Hossain, Mamunur Rahman Chayan, Moshiur Rahman Biplob, Taposh Barman, Imran Hasan Pintu, Enamul Kabir Turja, Hosne Mobarak Sumon, Shamsul Arefin Sujan, Russell Mahmud Jimmy, Sheikh Mohammad Nannu, Quamruzzaman Rana, Hasan Jubair Niloy, Puskar Kisha Mimo, Maksud Alam Habul, Krishna Kumar, Iqbal Nadir Prince and Firoz.
