Inspector General of Registration to deposit unrealized Tk 12.65 crore to government exchequer

Dhaka, Aug 18 (UNB)- Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law Ministry today asked the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) to deposit unrealized Tk 12.65 crore of government stamps to the exchequer by September 30.

The instruction came from a meeting of the committee with its chairman Suranjit Sengupta in the chair at the Sangsad Bhaban in the afternoon.

Briefing newsmen at the media centre Suranjit said the government has suffered a revenue deficit of about Tk 13.22 crore for using stamps of lower denomination in deeds after enacting the Stamp (Amendment) Act 2010.

Out of this, Tk 56, 35,406 has been realized in last two months, he said adding that IGR will be responsible if the rest of the money is not realized.

The meeting also formed a two-member sub-committee with Khan Tipu Sultan and Zaiul Huq Mridha to monitor the projects under the Law Ministry.

The meeting also recommended the Law Ministry to construct two Bahabans in each district, one for district judge and another for district bar, for modernization of the judiciary.

Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed, Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, M Fazle Rabbi Mia, Advocate M Rahmat Ali, Abdul Matin Khasru, Khan Tipu Sultan, Ziaul Huq Mridha, Nurul Islam Sujan attended the meeting.
